What clubs would you recommend for my 6-year-old?
That's not an easy question, as it depends on what level your child is at. At 6-years of age Karl had only been playing for 18-months and was using a half-set of "Tour Special" clubs that he'd got from our local golf shop in exchange for 600 balls we'd found in the rough at our local course. I think the retail on those was around $150.
What I'd avoid though is getting a real cheap set where the shafts resemble licorice sticks, as having shafts that are to "whippy" will harm your child's game as well as their confidence. On the other hand, most 6-year-old's don't need a tour quality 14-club set that cost enormous sums of money.
A happy compromise seems to be the half-sets (7-clubs) that are now available from various companies such as (amongst others) Tour Special, US Kids, Nike, Cleveland and Callaway. They're generally well-made clubs that are smaller versions of their tour clubs and which have appropriate shafts which will help your kids hit the ball straight.
