I see some young kids using expensive putters, yet they don't seem to putt as well as I see Karl do on his videos. Do they help?
Perhaps the expensive tour putters may help when they got down to near a scratch handicap, but I strongly doubt that anyone on a handicap of over 10 is going to notice the difference between a $400 Putter and a $100 Putter. What I've always had Karl using since he was age 6 was any putter which had a noticeable alignment mark behind the blade to assist him with lining up his Putts, and which he felt comfortable with.
Let's see, there was a Wilson putter I paid $30 for which he did well with. When he lost that I got him a Nike putter which I'd bought online for about $70 and which retailed here for nearly $200. That also had a long alignment mark behind the face and was instrumental in him winning his first world championships at age 7.
Karl is currently on a Men's handicap of 10.4 and uses a Yes "Marilyn" design, again because of it's alignment assistance, but also because it feels good for him at the moment.
As he both grows and gets better, we'll try various putters at the local golf shop to see which one feels best for him, then when it comes on special to less than $100 as putters and all clubs do and if he's not loving his current putter, then I would consider replacing his current one.
