Question: How does Karl train?
Answer: By that I assume you're asking what Karl's training schedule is. There are a couple of options to that answer;
- What tournament is Karl going to be training towards? and
- What training does he do when there are no tournaments?
If he has a major tournament approacing such as the Worlds, for the month or so before the Worlds, Karl will train 6 days a week for around an hour a day, focusing on all aspects of his game. On top of that, Karl will play 9 holes most evenings after his hour of practice and also play in the club weekend competitons. In the weeks leading up to the Worlds, Karl will spend an 30-minutes early in the morning on the range, then an hour on his short game, followed by a practice round on whichever course he'll be playing to get used to how to play it, but using a buggy so as to conserve the energy. That leaves him with his afternoons free to hang out with mates, go to the pool or watch Sponge Bob.
After the Worlds, Karl actually practices very little, so his game will naturally drop off a fair bit. His training focuses on maintaining a reasonable skill level, so he spends 2 or 3 short sessions per week on his short game, 2 sessions of an hour each per week on his long game, and 9 holes with his Dad or fellow juniors a few evenings per week. That gives him time to hang out with friends, have sleepovers, go to school camps, play other sports, etc.
